Children Artistes of Konark Natya Mandap

Child Artistes of Konark Natya Mandap of Orissa
performed Golipna, an Odissi Classical Dance
at the auditorium on Friday, 22nd July 2010.
Students from std I to XII attended the programme.

It was surely a wonderful experience for all of us to see the talented young boys, called Gotipuas, who performed ever so gracefully with all their acrobatic stunts. Those boys were taken from their families, with families' permission of course, when they were about six years old and have stayed in the Konark Natya Mandap Ashram every since. They have their normal education and training in the ashram and they visit their families during holidays or vacation. They remain Gotipuas till 16 years of age. After 16, they move to another form of dance.
