I Feel Good

By: Aswati C Menon VII A

I Feel Good

I feel good when I am happy

I feel bad when I am sad
I feel happy with my friends & teachers
They make me happy
In whatever way they can
I feel so proud about my school
When I enter the campus
I just love it
I was so happy when the vacation was over
To see my friends & teachers
Who make me happy often.

A Walk In The Night

As this poem was my first step in English poetry,it may have errors in it.This one was written by me in my 8th.I leave the poem the way it was then for the memories of that wonderful year.

On a starry bright night

Filled with the blue light,

Of the moon at such height

Which fills one with delight

I saw a wondrous sight,

A river in all its might

Which was having a little fight

With the pebbles shining bright.

And then there was no light

As I woke up in the night

And knew that I was right

That I was having a flight.

Flight - Highly imaginative idea or story.

The Lovely Rain

By
Thomas Sha Oril
Class VII A

Sky was dark and furious then
Started raining heavily then
Boys stopped their cricket match
Commenced dancing in the rain.
The cool mild breeze was blowing in
Made everything frozen in cold.
Mangoes twisted and turned in breeze
Added joy in our minds.
Birds chirped in joy and fun.
Cocks gave their loud clarion
My lovely kitten drenched in rain
Wow, its cries annoyed me
Lovely garden rejoiced in rain.
Most awaited monsoon rain.

Earth

by:
Karthikeyan Sreekumar
Class VII A

Earth, Earth, Earth
What a beautiful Earth
With the sky, ocean, and hills
Mountains, plateaus, rivers, and plains
Earth, Earth, Earth
What a beautiful Earth.

Earth, Earth, Earth
What a lovely Earth
When the river comes,
When the snow comes
When the sun shines
Earth, Earth, Earth
What a lovely Earth.

Earth, Earth, Earth
What a happy Earth
There’s rain for plants, and water to drink
When rain comes
The farmer’s happy
When the rain goes
The farmer’s sad
Earth, Earth, Earth
What a happy Earth.

Earth, Earth, Earth
What a sad Earth
There’s no hill and there’s no rain,
There’s no plant and there’s no food,
There’s no field, the farmers starve
Earth, Earth, Earth
What a sad Earth.

So, Earth, Earth, Earth
We all can make you happy

I should have...

We had our World Environment Day celebration on 7th June at 1.30 pm at the auditorium. Our chief guest was Mr. A. Achyuthan, an eminent conservationist. Although he is an engineer by profession, he is deeply involved in environmental activities. He delivered an interesting talk on climate change and its relation to global warming.
My task then was to take snaps even though there was a professional photographer around. When Mr. Achyuthan was still speaking on the subject, at some point I felt thirsty. Two thoughts flashed through my mind. First: 'I should stay and wait for him to finish' (because I had to take snaps of the Class X exam toppers being acknowledged on stage). Second: 'I can go, drink some water and come back fast.' Absentmindedly, I went and had some drink in the staff room. From there, I went to the office and checked something on the computer. After a brief moment, Shereef, the school chairman, hurriedly came and told me that I was needed at the auditorium urgently. I still had to ask him, 'for?' and 'why?' Duh!

So, I immediately got up and rushed to the auditorium. When I reached there, Ms. Anuradha V, the school vice-principal told me that I missed the awarding of the students who successful passed the class x exam. Later on, I was told that it was Fr. John who called for me because I was not there to take photos and the professional photographer had left the scene much earlier.
I SHOULD HAVE STAYED! I should have stayed and waited for Mr. Achyuthan to finish! If I had stayed, I would not have missed taking snaps of some moments that would not come back again, ever.
After the celebration, the national anthem was sung and students took their bags from their classrooms and proceeded to their respective vehicles. I came back to the office and tried to finish what I had left undone.
Since my bus would always come late, I had enough time to finish some work. Then, again, two trail of thoughts showed up. First, 'I should hurry up and be ready when the bus arrives.' Second, 'I don't have to go by bus today' (since there was no clear sign that it would rain). Without any thoughts of reconsideration, I stayed back.

When I was done working, I packed my things, left the office and started walking. Since I didn't join the others in the school bus, I had to walk to the medical college junction and board a bus. I was slowly walking and enjoying my walk when all of a sudden, the sky darkened and it rained heavily! I immediately pulled my umbrella from my bag. It was a small, lavender-coloured summer umbrella, under which I tried to fit myself and my big bag. So, since my bag and me didn't fit quite well, I decided to keep my bag dry. So, as it is already understood, I got wet!
I SHOULD HAVE LEFT! I should have left earlier when the sky was clear, when the bus was there ready to bring me home! If I had left, I would not have felt so unfortunate to walk alone in the heavy rain, under a small summer umbrella which had almost left nothing dry except for my bag.
As I recall those moments, I am reminded of two things: first, when I am confronted with a particular situation that requires a clear, responsible action, I should not act without a thoughtful consideration of the possible consequences ( I should have stayed and waited for the talk to finish...); second, I should always anticipate the next possible scenario and act based on that anticipation (I should have left with the anticipation that rain would fall anytime and that I wouldn't want to walk a long way in the heavy rain).
Food for thought: Almost always, we are caught in a stay or leave situation. It is to our consolation that life gives us enough time to decide what to do. We must  therefore use that God-given time for choosing the best course of action, even if it's just a few ticking seconds. We must therefore use that God-given time for choosing the best course of action.  Otherwise, we might miss precious moments in our lives that could never be repeated. Or, we would be in situations where we would not want to be at all!

The Other You

This happened a few years back when I was learning in 7th.The bell indicating the start of the Malayalam period rang and we were talking as usual. After a few minutes Preman Sir came  in and told us that we had to speak today! I sank low into my chair the moment I heard him and tried to stay out of his sight. But somehow he found me and asked me to speak on any topic I like. I wanted to vapourize on the spot! My instinct told me to say some excuse and get out of that instead of being an idiot in front of my friends.

But this time something was different. I was in a dilemma. I felt myself trying to tell sir an excuse but at the same time someone was asking me to speak in front of the class. I felt strange. How strange would it have been for sir and the students who were watching me stammer! There had always been this kind of fights inside my mind and usually it was me and my instinct that won. But this time I found out that I had to overcome my fear."There is no problem even if you make every word wrong. It's your friends sitting in front of you. If you can't talk to them who can you talk to?"

I closed my eyes. I had made my decision. I chose to speak. My speech was not as bad as I thought it would be but it still had lots of room for improvement. That was a start. From that day onwards I felt more confident about me. Even now I cant
speak in front of the public very well, but I have definitely improved.

So I think that whatever you do, you can listen to many advices but should always listen to your heart!

RULES OF CONDUCT

DO ALL THE GOOD YOU CAN
BY ALL THE MEANS YOU CAN
IN ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN
IN ALL THE PLACES YOU CAN
AT ALL THE TIMES YOU CAN
TO ALL THE PEOPLE YOU CAN
AS LONG AS EVER YOU CAN

A New Academic Year Begins.....

The opening of a new academic year is always an exciting moment. New students, new programmes, new expectations all embarking on an educational adventure.
The most important thing when you are starting out is not to let the nay-sayer steal your dreams. The World is full of such negative people. They have a thousand reasons why your dreams will not work and they are ready to share them with you at the drop of a hat. You just have to believe in your ability and make your dreams come true. For that, you have to love, respect and trust yourself.
The silkworm builds his cocoon with great love and infinite patience. It is a beautiful structure; but the silkworm cannot get out of it and ultimately dies in it. The material world, too, is like a beautiful cocoon. We build it with great affection and imprison ourselves in it without realizing that there are much more beautiful things outside. Let this academic year show us that there are much more beautiful things outside the material world and let this year show us the path to watch the miracles of life.
So friends, remember that you are special, no one can play your role better than you.

I wish you all a very happy academic year.

Know Thy Self: A session with Dr. Maaney V Paul

A session on Personality Development was held on the 3rd of March 2011 at Devagiri CMI Public School. The programme was handled by Dr. Maneey V Paul, a professional in the orientation process. The class was initially for students of class XI; but the students of classes VII, IX & X also joined the session so that they too would benefit from it.
The session mainly focused on the behavioural pattern of students. The main stress was on the ability to speak in public. Public speaking and communicating skills are skills which every person has to master. But those are the areas where students usually fail due to lack of confidence or inner strength. Maneey sir trained us on ways to conquer this fear. By the end of the session, students who were earlier reluctant to come up rose and shone on the stage.
Another area which Maneey sir touched upon was listening skill. Listening is something we find difficult to master. We may be hearing but not listening. In order to listen, we need our mind with us. Our physical, intellectual and spiritual sides need to be together if we wish to be a good listener. Only we can control our minds. So, it is up to us to sharpen our listening skill.
Listening skill is an important factor in shaping a good student. It's with the ability to listen that the student learns the ability to recollect. Students who find it difficult to grasp information find it difficult to understand.
Education is something which we achieve for our own betterment. We are the ones who benefit  from education. So it's our duty to make use of the facilities provided to us and study with our heart. The disinterest towards studies can be reduced and then made invisible. It can be done by appealing to our conscience to control our negative feelings. Studying depends on our mind's health. It can be made fun by a little effort.
All the different spheres can be conquered only if we have perfect understanding of oneself.
Self-confidence and self-respect are the two main factors that shape an individual. If we know ourselves really well then another person's opinion or comments will not affect us. As Sir quoted, 'KNOW THY SELF'.
This session certainly helped the students to expand their horizons. The impossible being transformed into the possible was the main highlight of this session.
The very trainer who educated us claimed that he was once a stranger to the stage. It was difficult to imagine him as such since he looked like as if he grew up on the stage!
In today's world, communicative skill is something which is inescapable. We need it. The session helped students not only in coping with the current situations, but also on handling their life; The only life they have to make it worthwhile.

Team Spirit Story 2: The Value of Friendship

Students were given a task to complete a story on Team Spirit in their Value Education class. They were provided with a beginning and an ending. This story was completed by the Awesome Five of Class VI (2010-11):

E.R. Devika
Shyam Krishna
Nivedh P. Anil
Abhishek K Anil
Rohit Ramesh

There's a boy named Sudheesh. He is very intelligent. He gets high marks in almost all exams and he completes his notes on time. But, he is a very unfriendly boy. He always engages in a fight with the other boys and does not cooperate with his classmates. He always wants to be the leader and will not accept the ideas of others. So, one day something happened...

One day, the class teacher made five groups in the class. Sudheesh was not the leader of his group; it was another boy. He wanted to be the group leader and he started fighting with the other boys and the class teacher noticed it. The other students went and informed this to their teacher. The teacher asked them to form another group without including Sudheesh. This was not known to Sudheesh. His work was not good compared to the others'.  He only used his own ideas and no-one offered him help. The class teacher read everything and his was not good.
Later on, the other members whom he didn't include, included him. Their work  came out to be very good.  Even though Sudheesh was not friendly and always fought with them, they allowed him to be a part of their team. The teacher liked their work very much and because of them, Sudheesh also got a very good mark. He was thankful to them.

After the incident, Sudheesh became a good member of the team, a good team leader and finally a good friend to all.

My Summer Vacation

By: Anvita Sreekanth
Class III B

Another long summer vacation is over and it's back to school again. I am sure you all would have enjoyed your vacation. Well, I am here to tell you how I enjoyed mine.
I feel lucky to have many cousins who visit us every year. This year too was the same. We form a big gang of 9 children.
In the mornings we used to play indoor games like ludo, snakes and ladders and scrabble. In the evenings it used to be badminton, cricket, hide and seek and so many other games. It was so much fun when all of us used to ride our bicycles together.
One day, our parents took us to the Kappad Beach. Oh! It was so much fun. We spent hours playing in the waves. We even built a beautiful sand castle.
Two months were filled with games and laughter. Of course, we used to have our small silly fights but we used to get over it really fast.
I was indeed sad when my cousins left. But we promised to meet during the next summer vacation and have even more fun.
So with all those wonderful memories, I start another year at school. I am sure you all are looking forward for the next vacation. So am I. But before that let's work hard and do well in our studies, so that we can enjoy the vacation better.

This was Anvita's speech in today's Pravesanotsav.
