Children Artistes of Konark Natya Mandap

Child Artistes of Konark Natya Mandap of Orissa
performed Golipna, an Odissi Classical Dance
at the auditorium on Friday, 22nd July 2010.
Students from std I to XII attended the programme.

It was surely a wonderful experience for all of us to see the talented young boys, called Gotipuas, who performed ever so gracefully with all their acrobatic stunts. Those boys were taken from their families, with families' permission of course, when they were about six years old and have stayed in the Konark Natya Mandap Ashram every since. They have their normal education and training in the ashram and they visit their families during holidays or vacation. They remain Gotipuas till 16 years of age. After 16, they move to another form of dance.

Reading.....

DCMIPS GETS “VAYANAKKALARI”

20th June 2011 was a memorable day for us. It was the day when the reading club was inaugurated. Only the Std.IX students witnessed the programme. Here is the report for the entire school…
The function began with a prayer song by Mr. Nandankumar after which Fr.Johny Mathew CMI and Mr. Anand K. welcomed the guests. Then, the newspaper was handed over to the school in the presence of former chairman and vice-chairman, Shereef Mohammed and Elsa Anna Simon and present chairman  and vice-chairman, Sachin P and Anjana P Soman and the school leader, Nabeel Najeeb Kassim.
Then it was the turn for our guest, Prof.Dr.O.A.Joseph, Professor, KMCT College, to say a few words. Here is a brief of what he said: “A successful human being doesn’t just mean being a doctor/engineer. It is about social commitment - knowing about the society.” His speech was short and to the point.
Then came the next guest, Mr.P.J.George, Executive, Malayala Manorama. He started with the words told to Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam by his father,Jainulabdeen:
“Who knows others is clever; who knows himself is the cleverest.” George Sir also reminded us that only 10% of our brain power lies in our conscious mind. The rest 90% lies in the sub-conscious mind. He also advised all of us to be good human beings, he concluded.
Next, we had our very own Mr. Paul Kallanode in front of the mic. He said that a newspaper makes us travel all around the world. He also said that there is no life without language. In his speech, he mentioned that the electronic and visual media have destroyed the spirituality of reading. Also, people have lost the value of relations. This can be overcome through social contact, that is, through reading. Mr. Paul Kallanode, asking us to improve collective consciousness and to make our soul happy by reading, he concluded.
Then we had Nandan Sir with a poem recitation entitled Kanathayavar by Sugathakumari which mesmerized us all.
Then came Ms.Vasantha, Department Head, Malayalam. She told us that reading gives the society good personalities.
As a student’s representative, Neha Mariya gave the Vote of Thanks. In behalf of the teachers, Mr. Preman CP expressed his words of gratitude and told us a story with a moral lesson: If we change, the world will also change. He also emphasized that we can make a better world through reading.
The function ended successfully in the presence of all Malayalam teachers, Fr.Johny Mathew CMI, Ms. Anuradha V. Mr. Anand K, Mr. Nandankumar and Mr. Gireesh Kumar.
On behalf of the entire student community, I thank the organizers.
 “THANK YOU”

Spirits and Ghosts: Are they true?

I began as a simple writer. To my luck I'm still a simple writer! I have been doing my own research on the topic of spirits and ghosts, not academically oriented, though.  It has been my craze. I browse for details during my free time and whenever I get a chance to speak about it, I literally go mad and end up without any conclusion. Well, that's me. Simply very typical me.... So, I decided to take a shot on writing on what I've been studying all these years.

So, let's begin with the same old questions: "Do you believe in spirits or ghosts?", "Do you actually think that we humans are surrounded by ghosts?"
Well, the customary answer would be a simple: "No". This is because we don't understand the wider concept of the term "spirit" or"ghost". When it comes to ghost or spirit, automatically, the neuron from our brain transmits the pics from movies and stuff. This is what we are. We are not interested in seeing anything from a wider angle. If you ask me whether I believe in ghosts, the ones they show in films, the pretty much accurate answer of mine would  be a blunt 'No'. Those films show a mental setup. i.e. multiple personality, as being a ghost or stuff. They make it look unreal.
In olden days, this so called multiple personality was considered as a ghost. But, it is just a mental state where the mind escapes from the reality. The last bit of info I gave was from "Sheela ma'am's" class.
We don't believe in spirits because it's not explained by science. So, let me ask you something.  It is said that "Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed". This is a scientifically proven statement, right?  Yes, obviously it is. So all of us know that our body is working due to some energy. Where do we get this energy from? There are many theses on this but none of them have proved its worth when coming to the point being discussed. So just neglect it.
We say that one is dead when that energy leaves the body, right? Where does this energy go? There exist two types of energies: positive and negative. Before I get into the next part, let me explain to you what this means. We go to a temple, or mosque or church. Places like these give us peace of mind. This is because a cloud of positive energy surrounds them. Then you will ask: "How do we know it?" It's explained by science. Those finely architectured buildings attract positive energy. The same case with the pyramids.and the sacred words like... amen, om, ameen,.etc. They create peace of mind. Just close your eyes for a minute and repeat any of those words ten times then open your eyes. You will be able to feel the difference. Ancient writers have explained this and science tells us that these words attract positive energy.
For those people who still doesn't believe it, let me tell you. The word "om" is a mixture of three words: "aaaaa", "oooo" and "mmmmm" I'm not joking.  The first one energizes our creativity. The second our wisdom. The third one gives us control. The same case with the "trimurties" in Hindu religion. These words together give balance to the three and give us peace of mind, i.e. positive energy.
So, back to the point. No one knows where the energy is going. Science says that it is not destroyed. The explanation that can be given is that people with positive energy, when they die, they give out this energy. This energy is absorbed in many ways as I told earlier. The problem is with the negative energies. They are still having something more to do in the universe, so they move around.
Don't take this as a ghost that you see in the movies. This type of spirit is really powerful because it's not bound in any one body so it causes many phenomenon which cannot be explained by science Only when we experience it that we can understand how terriffying it is.

This is about it for now. I'll be back to continue on the same topic.

Baby in the Garbage Can

Just to see how this works!!
Well, here I am (at last) on the blog!! Mellanie ma'am was VERY patient...
I don't know what exactly to write here now.... I guess  I'll start with a story Divya ma'am once told us (we miss you ma'am!!)

Once in Dubai, a man was on his way to his office when he heard the sound of a baby crying near a garbage heap. He believed that he imagined it because, of course, there was no chance of a baby being ANYWHERE near a garbage heap!! Right? WRONG!.

When he came back home, on the way, he once again heard the same sound and this time he KNEW he didn't imagine it. He rushed to the garbage can and there, inside it, was a NEW BORN baby! She was blue with sickness! The man knew he had to do something immediately to save the baby's life. He rushed the baby to the nearest hospital and while making arrangements in the  hospital, he happened to run into the Queen of Dubai, wife of the sheik who had been visiting the hospital that day. She asked about the baby. After hearing the whole story, she decided to ADOPT the baby!

So, believe it or not, after the baby was treated, she was taken to live in the palace as the daughter of the sheik! A PRINCESS!

Think of it! From a garbage can to a palace! Fate is AMAZING isn't it? =)

I Was My Teacher's Princess

Hello, friends! Looking at the title, you might think that I am going to narrate about fairy tales. It's not really a narration but just a sharing of a very important incident that happened during my childhood days -- a sharing straight from the heart.

I studied at St. Ebbas Girls Higher Secondary School which is situated along the busy street of Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai in Chennai.

First, let me tell you about the campus. It has a vast area with an auditorium, kindergarten, a big play ground with huge trees, a chapel, a computer centre and a sports room. Our teachers then, were all well educated and were not as young as the teachers we see today. They were very experienced and old too.

I joined the school when I was in 4th std. I remember the colourful moments of celebrations such as the school annual day, sports day, cultural events and so on... I used to have a tight schedule of exams, inter-school events, book fairs, trips with lots of fun and frolic. It was a time when I was free from all worries, active in all activities, involved in unforgettable incidents, restless in tests and exams and filled with sad and happy moments!

I used to participate in activities such as elocution, recitation, debate, group songs, inter-school activities. I was a very active and dynamic student. At the peak of my self expression, suddenly  my voice became very feeble and I found it very difficult to read. When I tried to read aloud in class, no one could hear me. My voice could not be heard. My parents were immediately called and were informed about my condition. After some test, it was found out that there was a tissue growth in my vocal cord. Being a girl child, my mother was so worried about how my future would be. It was troubling her and gave her sleepless nights. I was completely shattered. I felt I was alone. My interaction with others was no longer through voice but through my eyes and actions. I became mute. I lost my voice!

In the beginning it was difficult for me to accept what had happened to me. Slowly, I learned to accept the unacceptable. I started to observe others' activities keenly, especially the movement of their lips and their actions, and admired them when they sang or read aloud. Slowly my participation in speaking activities reduced. I became a calm and quiet girl.

My class teacher at that time was Mrs. Lizzy Edwin. She was handling English and Geography. One day, she called me to the staff room and she brought me closer to her and said,

"You are a princess. You can read, sing and you are my sweet little princess. Believe me when I say, you will be a star tomorrow."

Hearing those words, tears started to roll from my eyes. I could not control myself. I hugged her. I was like a daughter hugging her mother. She consoled me and after some time, she sent me back to the classroom. From that day onwards, I strongly believed and prayed to God that he would grant me that wonderful moment when I would get my voice back. My teacher ignited that hope in me.

For many years, I was under treatment. After six years, towards the completion of my studies at St.Ebbas school, I got an admission into a prestigious institution, Stella Maris College. It was then that I got my voice back! After six years! But as God took my voice, he gave back a very refined one.

I did my first compering work when I was in college. My teachers said that I spoke softly, but it was clear and good. They said I had a good voice. The moment I heard their comment, I bursted into tears.

When I was compering in a school in Mukkam, my parents came to attend the function. My mother was saying that the voice of the person announcing was good to hear. Later, she came to know that it was mine. Tears rolled from her eyes. She could not believe it.

Friends, I have understood that each one of us is unique and that God has a plan for all of us. I had a good teacher who encouraged me and gave me strength to overcome the difficulties in my school life.
Today, if she would get to see me as a teacher, I'm sure she would be the happiest person on earth. I don't know where she is right now. If she gets to read this article, I will be very happy.

My Teacher
You were the light in my life of darkness.
You guided me at times of difficulties
When I shed tears, you wiped them
You made me laugh when my heart cried.
When I rejoiced, you rejoiced with me.
You held my hand, I felt you were mine.
I watched your lips and
grabbed your style.
You helped me set my goals
and you made me win.
Today, I teach what you taught me
My Teacher, you made me a Teacher.

Back To School

We wake up in the morning
As early as can be
We go to the bus stop you and me.

We get into the bus
The teachers and us
Down the road we go
Safe and slow.

At last we reach school
School is very cool!
We walk down the hall
Some of the kids bring a ball.

As we sat down and start to learn
the teacher said "first we should take turns".

Soon the bell rang
with a bang!
And out in the sun the children run
The children say "lets have some fun".
